Formed in July 2007 in response to requests in the Parish Plan for floral displays, Wilberfoss in Bloom is a voluntary group dedicated to enhancing the beauty of our village. Since its inception, the group has planted thousands of daffodils and spring bulbs, installed floral planters throughout the village, and created several small gardens for everyone's enjoyment. Fundraising enables the group to maintain these displays and planters, with strong community support making it all possible. New volunteers are always welcome at our regular working meetings.
Calling All Wilberfoss Gardeners!
Wilberfoss in Bloom currently has over a dozen volunteers who dedicate their time to watering and weeding planting pockets. No experience or extensive plant knowledge is required to join—just a passion for keeping our village vibrant and tidy. Our efforts were rewarded with a Gold Award in 2014, proving that you don't need to be a professional gardener to make a difference.
Can You Help?
Our borders and planters continue to flourish, thanks to the efforts of our volunteers. We welcome new helpers, but we're particularly keen to see more men get involved! If you're interested in gardening and want to contribute, keep an eye out for our meeting notices at the corner of Storking Lane.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the companies and individual businesses that sponsor Wilberfoss in Bloom. Their support allows us to purchase new, substantial planters for the village.

A Royal Thank You to Wilberfoss in Bloom
In 2013, Wilberfoss in Bloom celebrated after receiving a Duke of York Community Initiative award for their community work, which inspired them to win Gold in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition in 2014.
The Duke of York’s Community Initiative is awarded annually to Yorkshire-based organisations that are deemed 'of real value to the community, well run, and an inspiration to others.' Wilberfoss in Bloom was one of just 40 recipients of this prestigious award. Chairman Margaret Smith said, "The award is for involving the community, taking pride in our place, and brightening things up."
Founded in 2007 to improve the village’s image, Wilberfoss in Bloom has consistently worked to enhance public spaces with colourful, sustainable displays. "We are always looking for ways to improve areas like bus stops," Margaret added. "People often tell us that our work brings a smile to their faces, and it's rewarding to give back to the community."
The initiative, founded by His Royal Highness The Duke of York in 1998, encourages and rewards innovative community projects in Yorkshire and the Humber. In 2013, four representatives from Wilberfoss in Bloom attended a luncheon at Bridlington Spa’s Royal Hall, where His Royal Highness personally presented the awards. "He congratulated us and took the time to speak with everyone in our group," Margaret shared.
